Environmental allocation

Significant volumes of recycled water are used for environmental allocation. This means that they are returned to the environment as a means of contributing back to the water cycle some of what has been taken out elsewhere.

Environmental allocation of recycled water is usually in the form of:

• Managed Aquifer Recharge;
• Surface water flows, such as by returning to rivers downstream of potable supplies; and
• Constructed Wetlands;
